Aerial photograph of houses in the McIntire Historic District of Salem, Massachusetts centering on Chestnut Street. Chestnut Street is lined with antique mansions built by wealthy sea captains and traders and is one of the most beautiful urban streets in America. Most of the houses were built in the early 1800’s, some designed by famed architect Samuel McIntire. They are considered the supreme examples of American Federal architecture and the district is a Registered National Historic Landmark. Photograph by Nathan Benn taken October 16, 1978.
